Real Couch. Real Camp.

CouchCamp

September 8th – 10th 2010

Bay Area
Walker Creek Ranch

A three-day summer camp
full of CouchDB nerdery, wildlife, fun and amazing speakers.

Speakers

A few speakers have been invited to give short formal presentations. The rest of our time has been set aside for unconference style discussions; a board will be available for you to schedule your own discussions.

Damien Katz

Damien is the inventor of CouchDB, founder and CEO of Couchio. He’ll take you on a deep dive into the CouchDB storage engine.

Selena Deckelman

Selena founded Open Source Bridge and is part of PostgreSQL. She’ll be talking about MVCC, which PostgreSQL was doing before people rapped about databases.

Stuart Langridge

Stuart is a hacker, author, and speaker living in the UK. He writes books about JavaScript and works for Canonical on Ubuntu, DesktopCouch and UbuntuOne.

Ted Leung

Ted is currently Director of Advanced Technology at Disney, and was one of the mentors of CouchDB at the Apache Software Foundation. He’ll be sharing his thoughts on the importance of community.

Josh Berkus

Josh is best known for his work in the PostgreSQL project, and has been a database consultant and engineer since 1995. He’s worked with MSSQL, MySQL, SQLite, and Oracle as well as CouchDB, Memcached and Redis, and at Greenplum and Sun, thus qualifying him as an “old relational database guy” at the age of 40. He’s also a darned good cook.

Dion Almaer

Dion Almaer is the director of Developer Relations at Palm and an evangelist for the open web. He works strongly with the WebOS team that is building an integrated web/mobile platform. Dion is the co-founder of Ajaxian, a prominent source of information for web developers. He’s one of the creators of Bespin at Mozilla Labs.

If you don’t feel that the accommodations can fit your requirements there are lots of bed and breakfasts in the nearby town of Point Reyes Station.

Wireless internet is available for the duration of the conference.

Walker Creek Ranch is out of normal cell phone range. Couchio will be providing a very large bag of quarters for use in the on-site pay phones.

Travel

If you are arriving from out of town Couchio will be providing buses from their office in Oakland, CA to Walker Creek Ranch on afternoon of the 8th. The closest airports are Oakland (OAK) and San Francisco (SFO).

If you plan on taking one of these buses you should schedule your flight as early as possible on the 8th. The office will open at 9am and refreshments and food will be provided. The first bus will leave at 2pm and the second at 5pm.

If you plan to drive to the ranch there is ample parking, you can arrive any time between noon and 6pm on the 8th. Dinner will be served at 7pm. Other refreshments will be available before that for those that show up early to play some kickball.
